  1. Western Mountains Outside the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem

WashingonRoadTrip2013

How do you combine day hiking and backpacking in the North Cascades, getting an option added to your travel trailer at the factory in British Colombia, day hiking in the mountains and coast of Olympic Nat'l Park, wine tasting in Oregon and visiting a good friend there, hiking in Mt. We left Bozeman and planned to drive a mere 275 miles to St. Regis, where we stayed for one night. But we have something interesting planned for the evening's entertainment.

We detached and drove back to Superior, MT. What are these folks doing? They are waiting for the Shakespeare in the Park company to begin their performance of The Recruiting Officer.

Well, all's well that ends well, and we had an uneventful drive the next day of 310 miles or so, to just north of Twisp, WA, at the Riverbend RV Park.

The next morning, we headed up the road to start the North Cascades Scenic Hwy, but HAD to stop in Winthrop for great cinnamon buns. Susie is sooo happy. Fresh out of the oven buns with hot coffee on a cool, rainy morning.

One of the view spots near Washington Pass. Roger is in the burnt orange rain jacket. Appropriately.

We changed our plans and decided to hike near Rainy pass, starting out in - what else - a light rain. The woods are lovely.

It's stopped raining, so we are enjoying the meadows on the climb to Lake Ann.
