  • We knew that the core of the Milky Way should be visible on a clear night, and the heavens cooperated. Wonderful to be far away from any population centers.. The orange glow in the lower right is someone's campfire.

  • The next day, our primary objective was to hike out to the Medicine Wheel, a protected sacred area to Native Americans. It is about 1.5 miles on an easy old road bed. Susie can't resist taking flower photos.

  • That afternoon, we took off for a couple of miles of exploration south of our campground. Note the FAA tower sphere on the top of Medicine Mtn.

  • Back at camp, it was time to get to work on a really nice dinner, delayed from yesterday. Here is Roger starting to sautee some beef filets after completing a wine reduction with shitake mushrooms. I would love to say this is our usual camping fare, but such would be a stretch of the truth.

  • We had attempted to hike to an overview of Bucking Mule Falls. But not paying attention to the REAL trailhead (at the other end of the parking area) got us on to the wrong route (an abandoned jeep trail). Such added a few extra miles to our hike.
