The San Rafael Swell, as you approach the Little Wildhorse Canyon area.

A nice cool morning. It is not long after you pass these trees that you run into a few obstacles.

A nice Paintbrush in the cool morning sun.

Into the narrows of Bell Canyon. Based on our experience and that of others, it is probably best to do the loop in a clockwise direction.

Susie inspecting the rock walls.
IMG_2735.JPG
Some nice folks piled some rocks to make this climb doable.
DSC_1345.JPG
A boulder jam. If you are 7 feet tall, it is no problem. But shorter folks have to be more creative.
IMG_2737.JPG
Roger uses a bit of a jamming move to get up.

Susie ended up hoisting herself up on her belly and stablizing herself.

Some micro-arches on the canyon walls.
DSC_1361.JPG
Bell Canyon opens up and one uses a jeep road to climb up and around a point of land that separates the two canyons.
DSC_1365.JPG
Taking the jeep road back down, one leaves the road in a few hundred meters and goes down thru the gap to the right.
IMG_2742.JPG
Some interesting rock structures along the way.
IMG_2744.JPG
OK, into Little Wildhorse. Roger is inspecting one of the first pouroffs. It is always easier to figure these out if one is headed upstream, which, of course, Roger is not.
DSC_1369.JPG
Down in the floor of the pouroff, time to take a peek and turn around and resume hiking.
DSC_1371.JPG
The narrows get more interesting.
IMG_2746.JPG
It is hard to see far ahead, but Roger is getting ready to drop down into a hole.
DSC_1373.JPG
After it is clear that we can proceed, Susie takes the plunge.
DSC_1377.JPG
Now we start getting into some good narrows.
DSC_1375.JPG
Little Wildhorse opens up for a bit.

IMG_2748.JPG
The canyon tightens up.
DSC_1380.JPG
Getting nice and narrow. Barely a boot-width wide on the floor.

One last shot before the narrows end and we see the sunshine.
